A sentimental favorite, here, and another show from another year featured in the upcoming Dead box set 30 Trips Around the Sun. This was the last show I saw with the other three members of my own “Core Four” in college, pictured above. And truth told, this was the last great Dead show I saw. I did catch the two RFK shows in the summer of ’95, only a couple weeks before Soldier Field ended the initial run.

We had seats behind the stage, and during almost all of “Terrapin Station” in Set 2, someone opened a fire door, and the alarm was blaring. Trust me, it added nothing to the performance, other than giving it a name for my friends and I, who thence refer to it as “The Fire Alarm Show.”

However, I was very pleased to see this one added to the 30 Trips box set, as it only reinforced my memory of what a really great show this one was. For this week’s Dead Zone installment, we took a look at all of Set 1, from “Help On the Way->Slipknot!->Franklin’s Tower” through “Promised Land.” Be sure to check out Set 2 as well in the playlist below, fire alarm not included.
